I’m here to talk to you about stripes, and why I love them so god damn much AND why you are going to continue to see the monochrome stripe making an appearance each and every season.
Firstly the black & white stripe combo is LOYAL. Not like Chris Brown, all up in the club with his “These Hoes Ain’t Loyal”. No. The stripe is the loyal like your grandparents, like your best friend who has never let you down. In fact, I could go as far as saying that the black & white stripe IS your best friend; the kind of best friend who doesn’t show you up, but show you off. That flatters your figure, whether they’re horizontal or vertical.
Secondly, the stripe trend has been around for decades; taking starlets fashion to the next level from Twiggy, to the Knowles Sisters, MK&A Olsen, to the newest and hottest young thing on the scene, GiGi Hadid. The black & white stripe is TIMELESS. Heck, even that 5 year old girl is rocking the stripe harder than I can.
In saying that, the stripe is not only TIMELESS, but AGELESS, too.
Thirdly, the black & white stripe does not DISCRIMINATE. Whether it be a summery stripe, or a thick, bold wintery stripe. The stripe will not discriminate against climate changes. In fact, the stripe will embrace them. Remember that cute stripey tee dress from summer last year? Yeah, well you betcha that you’re going to rock that with tights, boots and a thick knit cardi this winter. And if you don’t, shame on you for not getting your mileage!
Oh, yeah by the way – the stripe isn’t a patternist, either. Stripes don’t discriminate against other patterns. Whether it be spots, checks or leopard print – you name it, you should do it. The stripe isn’t afraid – so you shouldn’t be either. A wise Albert Einstein once said that:
“Once you can accept the universe as matter expanding into nothing that is something, wearing stripes with plaid comes easy.”
My God, even Einstein knew what was up. I mean, they didn’t call him a genius for nothing I guess.
I could continue this homage to the black & white stripe for countless paragraphs, and countless blog posts. But I wont, because the last thing you need to remember about stripes is that they are here to stay.
